Paint Like No One Is Watching: A Guide to Letting Go Through Music and Art
The painting is not the product. You are.
By Craig Pady. Paperback, 6 x 9 in, $21.99 CAD. ISBN 978-1-0658174-0-6. Distributed by Ingram at a 55% trade discount, returnable. Available at Indigo, Amazon and as an ebook on Gumroad.
About the book
In 2020, alone by the fireplace monitoring his pre-recorded radio show, Craig Pady picked up a pen when a Stan Getz solo came on. His hand moved before his mind decided to. When his son found the pages, he asked, "Can I keep this?"
This isn't a book about learning to paint. It's a short, warm guide to creating without judging every mark. All it asks for is a song you love, a page and something to make a mark with.
About the author
Craig Pady is an Ottawa-Toronto-based author, radio host, DJ and saxophonist, and bandleader of the Soul Jazz Express Band. He has hosted What Is Hip Radio on CIUT 89.5 FM since 1999.
In 2020, stuck at home monitoring a pre-recorded show, he picked up a pen when a Stan Getz solo came on and let his hand react to the music. That accident became Music Driven Modern Art, award-winning paintings made in direct response to sound. Paint Like No One Is Watching, his first book, shares the practice with anyone who has ever said, "I'm not creative."
Story angles
The radio host who started painting because he had to listen to his own show.
Why a ten-time Ironman executive froze in front of a blank page, and what that says about leaders.
